My Parents Home

Garden around the mail box, sedum in the front and a mum behind it, too bad the mum is the same color as the sedum. This is the back yard that as kids we would play in for hours and it seemed so large.
This is my favorite tree, a sugar maple that was planted by my Grandpa Jim, my Dad's dad. In the autumn it turns a brilliant orange. Next few picture are of the front of the house just from different angles

The leaves have started to change color and dropping all ready and the temp's are falling too. It's been going dropping in the 40's at night and in the 60's during the day. Have to enjoy the weather while I can befor the tempature is in the teens or twenties during the days. Yikes winter will be here before I know it.

Pretty in Pink

The pictures are of the "The Girls" My sister Carol's grand daughters. She sent me the pictures the other day.
K is on the left and L is on the right. If I could only get my hands on the pictures our mother has of Carol's dance recital she was in during out years living in Winthrop, MA. I'd put that picture in between t"the girls" for a fun comparison. Now that would be a great look. I think "the girls" are so cute and they do look different as they age.

Today is the day

Here's a picture of my Mom at my niece, Lisa wedding. Mom is 81 years old, oops not sure if I should mention a lady's age, hehehehehe

I'm not going into work today, but going to the Leahy Clinic in Burlington, MA to be with my Dad, brother Jimmy, his wife Daisy, and my sister Dottie. My Mom is going in for a biopsy of her upper right lung. The procedure should take about 50 minutes and she'll have to wait about an hour after before she can leave to go home. The Hospital wants to make sure her lung doesn't collapse. Not sure what to expect and it will be a while before we get the results.

Walking the Cape Cod Canal

This morning Michael and I walked the Cape Cod Canal on the Cape side. Starting off at 9am this morning it was a little cool, but after a while it seemed hot out there and we were grateful for the occasional shade from a tree on the path. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed but people on bike/walking paths seem to be more friendly than on sidewalks in any city of town. When I live in Somerville and took the Minute Man bike path out to my parents in Billerica people would always be exchanging some sort of pleasantry. Ahh the days of 20 miles bike rides each way out to Alice and Gabe's house, what fun.

Here are some pictures I took this morning on the Canal pathway.
Here's the first tree that has completely changed color. It won't be long before all the trees change color.
Under the Sagamore Bridge, taking a picture from one support to the other support on the Bourne side of the canal (mainland).

Walking up to the Sagamore Bridge.

Going to the beach after work today

We drove the convertible to work today and it was such a great day to drive to and from work with the top down. Not many more of these days left.
When we got home I let Pumpkin Pie out. Here she is walking around the yard with me as I wait for Michael so we can walk on the beach. Pumpkin got bored hanging out with me and ran into the brush looking for new friends to kill, come on, she's a cat it's part of life. Okay I don't want to see her killing anything.

What a day it must have been on the beach today this is what it looked like when we got there at 5:30.
Walking up the road I liked this picture of the compound, that's what we call it.

And here's a picture of sunset from our bedroom deck

My Mother

I got the call today, my mother said she wanted to talk to me for a few minutes, I knew something wasn't right.
When she fell down over two weeks ago and cracked her head open, she had an MRI done, well they found something, she has a spot on her upper right side of her lungs. She has a few more test that need to be done this week and a week from this Tuesday she'll be going in for a biopsy, going threw her nose, down her throat. They will take what they need and let her know what is going on.

One week later

It's been a quiet week, well sort of, at work, week two of the yearly audit is over and only two more weeks to go. Another hurricane hits the USA, it looks like major damage happened in Texas and Louisiana. When I see the damage done by the storms I'll take a snow storm anytime.

Day after Hanna

We waited all day for the storm to hit and all we got was about one inch of rain but strong winds. The only damage we had was a three foot tall pot with a four foot red grass in next to the front door on the deck, that fell over and broke. The stretch of road in front of the house looks like a pond right now with all the birds going into it. That should be gone before the day is over. I have a couple of picture but the camera is the car and will load them in later.

Plans for NYC in October

I've book our flights - Leaving Boston 17 October in the morning and returning on 20 October in the late afternoon. I booked two hotels - The Kimberly Hotel on E 50th street between 3rd Avenue and Lexington Avenue and The Affina 50 on E 50th Street ans 3rd Avenue. I like them both just not sure which one I'll cancel. The only thing is one is just a bit less than the other.
On Friday 17 October we'll be seeing The Marvelous Wonderettes at the Westside Theater Upstairs. Five rows from the stage.
On Sunday 19 October we'll be seeing Altar Boyz at Stage 4 at the New World Stages.
Saturday nor sure what we'll be doing I was hoping for someone that I knew at Birdland Jazz club but I don't know the two guys playing. Not sure if we should see another play or hit Cleopatra's Needle or Arthur's Tavern. Wish there was someone to ask for some feed back on a good place for jazz.
Now I have to plan on what restaurants to go to. I want to go to Bill's Gay 90'son E 54th Street.
Great grilled Tuna and free range Chicken.

I got a welcoming at work today

Not only was Jean Enos, my manager, wearing a red top and red shoes but a pink bra - she warned all of us she was PMSing - Jean didn't have to tell us we all know what it means when she is wearing red, oh what a day we'll all be having. Jean just let out did you hear that, I dropped another egg.

Traffic on Route 3 durning the morning commute

Traffic coming off the Cape in the morning is a lot lighter than it has been all summer, once the snowbird leave for a warmer climate there will be even less traffic. This morning we made good time until we passed exit 15 and the traffic just slowed to a crawl. Sometimes it can take 30 minutes or more from exit 16 to just pass exit 17 (it's about 3 miles between them).

Transfer Station on Tuesday evening

It doesn't get better than this on a Tuesday after work, first we stop at Whole Foods Market in Hingham just off of Rt. 3. Nothing like walking out of Whole Food with two small bags of groceries at a cost of $100.00 or more each time we go. Someday we'd like to spend a little less, okay sometime we do spend a lot less and go to Stop & Shop the trade off can sometimes be nice. The the best part of the evening is going to the transfer station aka the dump. There is the main station for just trash, then all the other stops that I make. I recycle almost everything I can. Paper, plastic, glass, cardboard, and metals, it's amazing what can be recycled. At first I wasn't keen on doing much more than paper, but after living in Somerville for several years, the kingdom of recycling, I got into it and think it's the way to go.

This is the road to the tranfer station.

Here I am waiting in line to drop off my trash.

I'm next to pull into the shed to throw the bag of trash over the railing into a huge dumpter down below.
